Avianca launches operations in Nuevo León with new Monterrey–Bogotá route

  • Avianca begins operations in Nuevo León for the first time, enhancing connectivity with South America and reinforcing the “Ponte Nuevo, Ponte Mundial” strategy

Ciudad Apodaca, Nuevo León, October 28, 2025 — The Ministry of Tourism of Nuevo León, in coordination with Avianca and OMA Airports, announced the launch of Avianca’s direct Monterrey–Bogotá route, which operates four times per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday).


“With this route, Nuevo León strengthens its relationship with South America, boosts tourism exchange, and expands its international reach ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Today, our airport offers more than 60 active routes and is already the second busiest for domestic flights in Mexico, reflecting the dynamism and confidence generated by our state,” noted Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal, Secretary of Tourism of Nuevo León.


Ricardo Dueñas, CEO of Grupo OMA, emphasized: 

“The arrival of Avianca at Monterrey Airport marks a milestone in our strategy to reinforce the northern hub of the country through a more diversified air network. It allows us to meet the needs of passengers who use this terminal as a point of departure, arrival, or connection to more than 60 domestic and international destinations.”


Juan Francisco Posada, Country Officer of Avianca in Mexico, highlighted the regional significance of the new operation: 

“The launch of direct service between Bogotá and Monterrey represents a major step in consolidating Colombia’s international air connectivity. This route not only facilitates tourism and business exchange between both countries but also strengthens regional integration and positions Colombia as a strategic hub in Latin America. The direct connection encourages foreign investment, supports business growth, and promotes sustainable economic development.”

The route is operated by an Airbus A320 with a capacity of 180 passengers, offering a total of 1,400 seats per week between the two cities.

With this new service, Nuevo León continues to reinforce its leadership in air connectivity, strengthens ties between Mexico and Colombia, and consolidates its position as a competitive, modern, and globally connected state.
