OMA obtains 1st place at the GRI Infra Awards 2024 in the Atmosphere and Biodiversity category.

Mexico City, September 9, 2024 — Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte, known as OMA, has been awarded first place at the GRI Infra Awards Mexico 2024 in the Atmosphere and Biodiversity category for implementing energy efficiency in its airports.
The first edition of the GRI Infra Awards in Mexico was held last August 29, where companies that promote sustainable development in the infrastructure and energy sectors in the Andean countries, Brazil, and now Mexico were recognized. The evaluated projects and programs stood out for their alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, as well as for their capacity for innovation, technological application, and generation of positive social impact.
As part of VINCI Airports, the world’s largest private airport network, OMA is dedicated to implement innovative solutions that enhance sustainability across the group’s airports. This includes developing strategies to reduce their carbon footprint and increase the energy efficiency of their operations. The following projects are particularly noteworthy:
Power Purchase Agreement (PPA): Since 2019, OMA has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with a wind energy provider. Through this agreement, an average of 79% of the company’s electricity consumption has been supplied with renewable energy since 2020.
Solar Panel Installation: Since 2021, over 270 million
pesos have been invested in installing solar panels at 13 airports, reaching an aggregate capacity of 9.64 MWp. In 2023, this technology produced approximately 17% of OMA's energy consumption needs.
LED Technology and Battery Banks: Starting in 2022, OMA began the renovation of runway lights with solar LED technology at various airports, in addition to installing battery banks with an aggregate capacity of 11.8 MWp, reducing grid consumption during peak hours.
Level 2 Carbon Accreditation: All 13 OMA airports currently hold Level 2 Accreditation from the Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program, which recognizes efforts by airports to reduce their carbon emissions. The company aims to achieve Level 3 Accreditation under the ACA program between 2024 and 2025.
