OMA is recognized as “Green Airport 2023” by ACI-LAC for its Environmental Sustainability Project

• Since 2018, OMA has defined and implemented a series of key actions to generate energy savings and reduce carbon emissions in all of the airports. 
• By the end of 2022, these actions have contributed to a reduction of over 8,000 tCO2, which is equivalent to planting more than 261,000 trees.

Mexico City, México – November 7, 2023. – Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte, OMA, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the 'Green Airport Recognition 2023' by the Airports Council International Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) for the project” Implementation of technologies for energy savings and carbon emissions reduction”.  

This recognition highlights the best environmental practices implemented by airports in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean and demonstrates OMA’s commitment to sustainability and environmental care.

OMA, part of the VINCI Airports network, has defined clear actions focused in fighting climate change, making positive climate contributions in the localities where it operates by deploying technologies that generate energy savings and, in turn, reduce carbon emissions including:

• Energy consumption monitoring, control and planning systems. 
• Battery bank, an innovative plant technology project that operates integrally with photovoltaic cells storing energy.

Both projects optimize the use of energy generated by photovoltaic cell farms at each airport.

Since the implementation of these actions from 2018 to the end of 2022, a reduction of over 8,000 tons of tCO2 has been achieved, equivalent to planting more than 261,000 trees and saving more than 18 million kWh.

As a demonstration of its commitment to decarbonization, OMA actively participates in the Airport Carbon Accreditation program promoted by Airports Council International (ACI). Each airport achieved level 1 of the accreditation on 2022 called “Mapping” which entailed a measurement of their carbon footprint. Currently, the OMA airports are working on their application for the Level 2 called “Reduction” through which it must be demonstrated that there are clear targets and objectives to reduce its carbon footprint in the short and medium term. 

This recognition demonstrates OMA's innovation and leadership in the airport sector and its commitment to environmental sustainability.
