Monterrey, N.L., July 7, 2026. Monterrey is welcoming the world. In June, a month that marked the first weeks of the FIFA World Cup 2026™, Monterrey International Airport recorded a 10.3% growth in international passengers, highlighting an increase in foreign visitors and consolidating its status as one of the main gateways to northern Mexico.

During June, the airport handled 1,327,922 passengers, of which 235,257 were international travelers. This reflects Monterrey's growing appeal as a destination for business, tourism, and world-class events.

The dynamism of international traffic was particularly evident during the second half of the month, coinciding with the World Cup activities held in the city. Between June 15 and June 21, international traffic grew by 12.9%, while June 22 to June 28 saw a 25.5% weekly increase—the highest growth during the month. Even in the last two days of June, international traffic maintained a positive growth rate of 9.1% compared to the same period of the previous year.

These results underscore Monterrey's increasing international connectivity and the airport’s operational capacity to meet the growing demand fueled by the arrival of domestic and international visitors during the tournament.

“The increase in international traffic confirms a trend we have been driving for several years: strengthening Monterrey’s connectivity with major national and international markets. Our responsibility is to ensure that the region’s growth is supported by airport infrastructure prepared to meet future needs,” stated Ricardo Dueñas, CEO of Grupo OMA.

During this period, the airport maintained continuous operations supported by investments in infrastructure, processes, and technology. Key improvements included the modernization of inspection checkpoints, the integration of digital solutions to ease passenger flow, and enhanced operational coordination among authorities, airlines, and airport stakeholders.

“At OMA, we understand that an airport not only connects destinations but also links investment opportunities, tourism, and economic development. Our commitment is to continue building the infrastructure that will enable the region to harness this potential in the coming decades,” Dueñas added.

With a historic investment of 8 billion pesos allocated to Monterrey International Airport between 2025 and 2030 as part of a multi-annual program exceeding 16 billion pesos across the OMA network, the terminal continues evolving to meet sustained demand growth and bolster Nuevo León’s international connectivity for years to come.

The World Cup accelerated the arrival of visitors; the connectivity being strengthened in Monterrey today will serve as the true legacy. With a long-term vision, OMA is committed to developing infrastructure that will allow Monterrey to stay connected with the world long after the final whistle blows.
