Chihuahua, Chihuahua – July 10, 2025 – Chihuahua International Airport has taken a major step forward in reinforcing its role as a key logistics hub in northern Mexico, with the launch of two new routes operated by TAR Airlines: Chihuahua-Queretaro and Chihuahua-Los Mochis-La Paz, both of which began operations on July 7.
These new connections bring the airport’s network to 14 routes (12 domestic and 2 international), reinforcing its role as a vital link between northern Mexico, the Bajio region, and the Pacific coast. The airport currently hosts operations from six commercial airlines and is expected to close in 2025 with 1.9 million passengers, an indicator of its increasing importance for regional economic and tourism growth.
The launch event was attended by the Constitutional Governor of the State of Chihuahua, Maru Campos Galvan; State Secretary of Tourism, Edibray Gomez Gallegos; Mayor of Chihuahua, Marco Antonio Bonilla Mendoza; State Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, Mireya Sosa Osuna; executives from TAR Airlines; and OMA CEO, Ricardo Dueñas.
“Every new route opens the door to new opportunities – it attracts investment, generates employment, and strengthens the state’s competitiveness. Today, we’re connecting the north with the Bajio and bringing the Pacific coast closer,” said Ricardo Dueñas, CEO of OMA.
Modern infrastructure for smarter connectivity
These new routes are part of a long–term investment plan in airport infrastructure. Between 2020 and 2025, more than MXN 1.02 billion was invested in modernization efforts, covering 5,743 m² of new construction and 9,510 m² of renovated areas. This also included the integration of cutting-edge technology in security, energy efficiency, check-in, and boarding systems.
Looking ahead: 2026-2030 Investment Plan
With a long-term vision, the airport plans to invest an additional MXN 660 million between 2026 and 2030.
