OMA Boosts Air Connectivity in Tampico with the New International Route to Dallas Fort Worth.

  • Starting today, American Airlines will offer daily service to Dallas (DFW) using an Embraer 170 aircraft with a capacity of 65 seats.

Tampico, Tamps., March 6, 2025 - OMA, Tampico International Airport, along with the Secretary of Tourism, the Municipal Presidents of Tampico, Altamira, and Ciudad Madero, and representatives from American Airlines, celebrated the inauguration of the new international route connecting Tampico with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), operated by American Airlines. This new route is a strategic step in boosting the region’s air connectivity, allowing passengers access to one of the world’s largest hubs and an extensive network of destinations in the United States and beyond.

During the inauguration ceremony, OMA executives expressed their gratitude to authorities, American Airlines, and attendees for making this route expansion possible. "For OMA, American Airlines has been a strategic partner for decades, and we recognize their commitment and investment in expanding connectivity at Tampico International Airport. With this new route, American Airlines strengthens its position as the largest operator of international routes from OMA airports, now totaling 14 international connections," stated Abelardo Muñoz, Aviation Development Director from OMA.

Tampico International Airport operates from 6:30 AM to 9:30 PM and has two runways, the main one being 2,550 meters long, allowing up to 22 air traffic movements per hour. Over the past five years, OMA has invested nearly $300 million pesos in infrastructure maintenance and improvement projects, including runway rehabilitation, platforms, taxiways, and service roads, as well as enhancements in equipment to strengthen passenger safety. These investments will continue in the coming years to ensure user satisfaction and the airport's sustainable growth.

In parallel, OMA has driven airport modernization by expanding the commercial offering within the terminal and building a solar park since 2022, which now generates 75% of the airport’s energy consumption. Additionally, in early 2025, the airport achieved Level 3 of ACI’s Airport Carbon Accreditation Program, the only global standard that evaluates carbon emissions management at airports.

The opening of this new route also marks a milestone in the recovery of air traffic in Tampico, reflecting the resilience and economic dynamism of the region. OMA will continue working to strengthen the airport’s connectivity, attracting more routes and increasing seat availability for passengers.

With this new connection, OMA reaffirms its commitment to the economic development of Tampico and the State of Tamaulipas, consolidating itself as a strategic ally in generating opportunities through investment, the growth of airport infrastructure, and the expansion of air connectivity.
