Monterrey and Mazatlán are being added to Air Canada's direct network to Vancouver during the winter season.
Connection options between northern Mexico and Canada are growing for tourism and business.
It strengthens international connectivity and the strategic positioning of OMA's airports.
Monterrey, NL, April 6, 2026 – OMA, part of the VINCI Airports network, in partnership with Air Canada, announces the opening of two new temporary international routes operated by Air Canada that will link Monterrey and Mazatlán with Vancouver, strengthening air connectivity between Mexico and Canada and expanding the range of direct destinations from the Group's airport network.
The addition of these routes aligns with the evolution of demand between both countries, particularly in segments linked to tourism, business travel and seasonal mobility.
In the case of Monterrey, the new connection with Vancouver adds to the Monterrey-Toronto route that Air Canada has operated since August 2025, and represents a natural extension to develop connections that boost tourism development to the west and northwest of that country, and improves Monterrey's connectivity to the Asian continent through the Canadian airline's global network.
It is considered a high-value route, with a balanced combination of business, academic and tourist traffic, which fosters the creation of commercial and cultural ties between northern Mexico and Canada.
In turn, travelers from the Canadian city will benefit from the great national and international connectivity offered by Monterrey International Airport, with 64 direct routes, including 38 national and 26 international destinations.
“The addition of these routes confirms OMA’s commitment to the international connectivity of the cities we serve, supported by our master development program, a multi-year investment plan that we are deploying in our air terminals,” said Ricardo Dueñas, CEO of OMA.
For its part, the Mazatlán–Vancouver route contributes to strengthening the tourist vocation of this city, by incorporating Air Canada as a new airline in Mazatlán and diversifying its air offer, as well as facilitating direct access from the Canadian market during the winter season, a period of high relevance for the industry.
This additional connectivity favors a greater attraction of international visitors and contributes to the dynamism of the regional tourism sector, capitalizing on the strength of this destination.
Within the OMA network, Air Canada already operates seasonal flights to the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo tourist destination from Vancouver, Montreal, and Toronto, with a total of three weekly flights. The airline emphasized the importance of the Mexican market within its growth strategy.
“We are proud to continue growing in Mexico, a key market for Air Canada, and reaffirming our commitment to connecting the country to the world through Canada via an increasingly robust route network,” said Luis Noriega Benet, Commercial Director for Latin America and the Caribbean at Air Canada.
The executive also highlighted the strengthening of connectivity from the north of the country:
“In this regard, we have established ourselves as the only airline with direct flights from Nuevo León to Canada with the Monterrey–Toronto route, to which we now add the new Monterrey–Vancouver route. Likewise, we continue to strengthen our presence in destinations such as Mérida and Mazatlán, as part of our strategic expansion in Mexico and Latin America,” he added.
State authorities, for their part, highlighted the impact of this new connection on regional development.
The Secretary of Tourism for Nuevo León, Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal, stated: “This new direct route to Vancouver expands Nuevo León’s international connectivity and strengthens its ties with Canada. We continue to generate more connection options that facilitate the arrival of visitors and the development of opportunities for tourism and business in the state.”
In line with this, authorities in the State of Sinaloa also recognized the importance of Air Canada's expansion in the country.
Mireya Sosa Osuna, Secretary of Tourism of Sinaloa, stated: “We celebrate the arrival of Air Canada to Mazatlán, marking a historic moment as it becomes the first time this airline has flown to the state of Sinaloa, thus strengthening our international connectivity.
We deeply appreciate Air Canada's confidence in investing in this great Mexican Pacific destination, as well as the commitment of Grupo OMA, with whom we continue to work hand in hand to make possible the arrival of more flights that boost the state's economic and tourism development, and allow us to continue consolidating ourselves as a preferred destination for the Canadian market.”
The new routes will be integrated into Air Canada's schedule from December 3, 2026 to April 24, 2027 with three weekly round-trip operations to Monterrey, and two to Mazatlán, aligned with seasonal demand patterns and the airline's growth strategy in Mexico.
