Monterrey Airport strengthens operational safety with advanced runway lighting system modernization

Monterrey, N.L., March 11, 2026 – Monterrey International Airport, operated by OMA, reaffirms its commitment to operational safety and the modernization of its airport infrastructure. The airport has implemented an advanced PAPI lighting system featuring state-of-the-art LED technology on its main runway and has also installed it on the secondary runway, as part of a strategic investment initiated last year.
This modernization represents a planned upgrade that supports more efficient, safer and more sustainable operations. The lighting system has remained fully operational during regular operating hours, ensuring the continuity and safety of both commercial and general aviation activities.
As part of the implementation and validation process, certification flights are being conducted from March 9 to March 12. These flights are performed by a verification aircraft operated by the federal aviation authority to inspect and ensure the system operates correctly in accordance with international standards.
These inspections are routine procedures following the installation of new technologies at airports and do not affect the regular operation of the runways during operating hours.
The airport community was previously informed about this modernization during sessions of the Operations and Scheduling Committee, reaffirming Monterrey Airport’s commitment to transparency and continuous improvement.
