Monterrey, Nuevo León – June 2, 2026 –—OMA today celebrates the launch of its direct route to Madrid, operated by Iberia. This significant development positions Monterrey as a key hub for northern Mexico, strengthening its connection to Europe and fostering regional growth.
The new route, operated three times weekly (Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday) aboard a modern Airbus A330-200 with a capacity for 288 passengers, significantly expands travel and business options to Europe. It is estimated that the operation will offer passengers over 50,000 seats in 2026, fostering a direct and efficient link with Spain and, through Madrid, with Iberia’s extensive proprietary network of 145 destinations in 49 countries and 384 codeshare destinations in 81 countries.
The launch of this route underscores VINCI Airports' commitment to developing positive mobility solutions that drive economic and tourism growth. The significant investments in modernising and expanding Monterrey Airport have equipped the terminal with the increased capacity and technology required for long-haul operations, ensuring a world-class experience for travellers.
To commemorate this milestone, an inauguration event was held at Terminal A of the airport, bringing together key figures such as Nuevo León State Governor Samuel García Sepúlveda, representatives from Iberia, OMA, and Monterrey Airport. The event underscored the synergy between the public and private sectors in driving regional development.
For the Nuevo León Ministry of Tourism, this route represents a crucial advancement. “Nuevo León continues to strengthen its international connectivity with a long-term vision. This new route broadens our connection opportunities with Europe and reinforces our ongoing efforts to establish a more prepared, competitive, and connected state with strategic markets,” stated Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal, Secretary of Tourism of Nuevo León.
Meanwhile, María Jesús López Solás, Iberia's Commercial, Network, and Alliances Director, emphasized the strategic importance for the airline: “The launch of this route marks a milestone in our history and is a key step in the implementation of our Flight Plan 2030, the strategic roadmap guiding our path over the coming years. One of its primary objectives is to further consolidate our leadership position between Latin America and Europe. This new connection with Monterrey allows us to not only expand our network with such an important destination as Nuevo León but also continue building an air bridge between Mexico and Spain, thanks to the more than 820,000 seats we offer this year between the two countries.”
“The Monterrey-Madrid route is a clear manifestation of OMA's strategy to drive Nuevo León’s connectivity and cement its position as Mexico and Latin America’s gateway. Iberia has proven to be a key ally in this vision, and this inauguration validates our investments in the modernization and expansion of the airport,” said Ricardo Dueñas, CEO of OMA.
