Expansion of Monterrey Airport Progresses; Passenger Service Capacity Increases by 34%

  • Samuel García, Governor of the State of Nuevo León; Nicolas Notebaert, CEO of VINCI Concessions; and Ricardo Dueñas, CEO of OMA, inaugurated the new outpatient clinic at Terminal A of the Monterrey Airport.
  • Starting in June, the airport will be able to serve approximately 16 million passengers annually and will offer a new travel experience with expedited documentation processes.

Monterrey, México, May 6, 2024.- Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte (OMA) today unveiled the new East Concourse of Terminal A at Monterrey International Airport, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing expansion and modernization efforts initiated in 2019.

Joined by State Governor Samuel García, Secretary of Tourism Maricarmen Guerra, Secretary of Economy Iván Rivas, and other dignitaries, CEO of VINCI Concessions, Nicolás Notebaert, and OMA CEO Ricardo Dueñas, officially opened the new space, scheduled to start regular operations in June.

With the completion of the East Concourse, the third phase of the initial expansion project concludes, following the earlier opening of the West Concourse and Finger 1, as outlined by project leaders.

The East Concourse spans 6,253 square meters and features 35 double documentation counters, commercial establishments, airport services, medical facilities, checked baggage control, and sanitary amenities, all meticulously designed to provide a seamless and comfortable experience for all travelers.

"These expansion and renovation initiatives have expanded the functionality and footprint of this space by 42%, from 62,000 to 88,000 square meters, allowing us to accommodate 15.9 million passengers in this initial phase," added Ricardo Dueñas, CEO of Grupo OMA.

With an investment of 8 billion pesos across two phases, the expansion and modernization of Monterrey International Airport underscore OMA's steadfast commitment to enhancing and modernizing airport infrastructure in the region, positioning Nuevo León as an increasingly vital HUB for national and international connectivity.

Phase 2 of the project, slated for the coming months, will see the construction of a new inspection point, expansion of the national baggage claim area, and creation of additional seating areas and boarding gates. Upon completion, the airport is projected to have the capacity to serve 17.2 million passengers annually, spanning a total area of 103,000 square meters.

Monterrey International Airport solidifies its status as the primary air HUB in the northern region of the country, boasting a network of 41 direct national destinations and 17 international destinations, serviced by 8 national and 5 international airlines.

Recent additions of international routes to Phoenix, Bogotá, Toronto, Denver, Austin, Orlando, and Seoul, alongside the launch of 14 new domestic routes in 2023, underscore the airport's growing significance as a key facilitator of both national and international travel.
